LAHORE, March 7: The CIA Model Town claim to have arrested two members of the ‘Khandani’ dacoits gang involved in 300 cases of dacoity and recovered from them cash and gold ornaments worth Rs15 million.

This was stated by CIA SP Umer Virk while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.

According to a press release, the SP said DSP Malik Dawood and his team arrested Faisal alias Moon and Qaisar alias Kashif. He claimed both the accused were brothers and belonged to a professional dacoit family.

The SP said their brother Umer was killed during a robbery attempt while another brother Nasir died due to illness in a death cell. Their fifth brother, Yasir, is in jail in a dacoity-cum-murder case while their mother, Kaneez Fatima, and sister Naila Razzaq were still at large.

He said the accused often targeted the families returning home after attending marriage ceremonies. They were also involved in looting citizens outside ATM machines. He said the arrested culprits had also looted the family of the editor of an Urdu daily some months ago.

Meanwhile, SP Virk said the police had collected clues about the murder of Prof Ali Haider and his son, and “we will give you a good news regarding this case very soon”.

He said accused Riaz Qadir, who was involved in a bomb blast in Lahore, had been arrested in America on our information and we are arranging for his handing over to the Lahore police through the channel concerned.
