LAHORE, Jan 15: The Cantonment division police claim to have busted three gangs of robbers and thieves, arresting their 14 members and seizing cash, cell phones, other valuables and illegal weapons from their possession.

Two teams of Baghbanpura and South Cantonment police, constituted by Cantonment SP (Operations) Maroof Safdar Wahla, raided separate localities on tips off and arrested the gangs.

Baghbanpura police arrested ringleader Farman Ali and his eight accomplices, identified as Anwar, Javed, Khalid, Kashif, Bilal, Arshad, Kauser and Rafia, and seized Rs185,000 in cash, three cell phones, two motorcycles and illegal weapons and bullets from them.

South Cantonment police captured another group leader Rafaqat Ali and his accomplice Ishaq and seized a tractor, a trailer, two daggers and illegal weapons from them.

The police traced eight cases against both gangs in various police stations.

A Harbanspura police team, constituted by Cantonment SP (Investigation) Fida Husain, raided an area near Ring Road and captured Yasir, the leader of a gang of thieves, and two accomplices, Naveed and Ghafoor, and recovered from them Rs400,000, three cell phones, two daggers and illegal weapons.

The police traced over two dozen cases of robbery against the gang.
