LANDI KOTAL, Oct 24: The reconstruction of all destroyed government schools in Landi Kotal and Jamrud tehsils of Khyber Agency would be started soon after Eid, said Political Agent Mutahir Zeb.

Talking to tribal elders and journalists during his two-day visit to Landi Kotal, he said that solar energy system would be also installed in the schools.

The political agent said that warm tents would be provided to the students of destroyed schools in cold areas so that they could continue their studies before reconstruction of their schools.

He said that technical and teaching staff as well as security would be provided to the vocational training centre in Kam Shalman area to make it operational immediately.

The centre, constructed at a cost of Rs13.5 million in 2001, has been lying useless since then.

Mr Zeb said that he along with the assistant political agents would pay surprise visits to schools and health centres in Landi Kotal and Jamrud to ensure attendance of teaching staff and health workers.

Prior to his meeting with the local tribal elders, the political agent suspended a doctor and a storekeeper at Jamrud Civil Hospital for being absent from duty during working hours.

Mr Zeb said that his administration had planned to upgrade the existing hospitals in Malagori and Jamrud by providing those with additional modern equipment and other required facilities.

He took serious notice of the complaints about use of substandard material in the construction of a new block at the Agency Headquarters Hospital Landi Kotal.

He assured local elders that stern action would be taken against the people responsible for use of substandard material.

The political agent informed local elders and journalists that administration had already constituted a committee to investigate laxity in the construction of a dam in Loe Shalman area of Landi Kotal.

Mr Zeb lauded local elders for assisting the administration and security forces in improving law and order situation in Jamrud and Landi Kotal tehsils.

He expressed the hope that maximum number of development projects would be executed if the same level of cooperation continued to exist between the administration and local people.
