KARACHI, Aug 11: Two people were killed and five others injured in separate incidents in the city on Saturday, officials said.

In Mahmoodabad, two groups exchanged fire over a dispute involving setting up of stalls in an Eid Bazaar. Police said the dispute between the two groups of traders had started about a week ago.

“On Friday night, they had a brief clash in which firearms were used,” said an official at the Mehmoodabad police station. “Today (Saturday) it got worse as the renewed fighting left a fruit vendor, Qadeer, dead and three others, including two brothers, injured.”

The bothers were identified as Abdul Samad and Abdul Rauf. The dead and the injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where supporters of the two groups again clashed and used firearms. However, no casualty was reported.

Four suspects were arrested from the hospital premises, South SSP Asif Ejaz said.

In old city area, armed assailants killed a young man and injured two others.

Police said two men on a motorbike opened fire on youngsters at a street corner near Dhobi Ghat.

“The firing left 21-year-old Farid alias Lala dead and his two friends injured,” said an official at the Garden police station.

The body and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital.
