KARACHI, Dec 28: A man who had apparently provided vital information to law-enforcement agencies that led to the arrest of several militants of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the tribal areas was shot dead in Pak Colony on Tuesday, police said.

They said that 46-year-old Qadir Khan, a resident of Bajaur, was targeted by unidentified assailants inside his small tea stall in the Pak Colony area. He was shot twice in the face causing an instant death.

A duty officer at the Pak Colony police station said that the incident occurred at 7.30am when the victim was opening up his tea stall.

Gogi Khan, the victim's nephew, was the first to reach the scene from his nearby residence.

However, the police did not find any eyewitness account to ascertain the number of the assailants or other details.

The victim had come to Karachi a few months ago and opened up a small tea stall in Waliyatabad No 1, near Ibrahim Ali Bhai School, for a living. He was assisted by his nephew. He had two wives and 12 children.

Quoting family members, the police said that the victim had helped the law-enforcement agencies, including the FC, in Waziristan to arrest several members of the outlawed TTP.

“He was in touch with the FC back in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also organised a jirga,” the duty officer said.

Following the incident, the police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination. Later, the body was handed over to the family for burial.

PPP worker shot dead

An activist of the Pakistan People's Party was gunned down by assailants within the remit of the Al-Falah police station on Tuesday.

Police said that Hasan Baloch was going somewhere in his car and as he slowed down his car at a speed breaker in Juma Goth, the assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on him and escaped.

They said that the victim suffered serious bullet wounds and was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died.

SSP Javed Akbar Riaz of Shah Faisal Town said that the victim was involved in several land-related disputes. “The killing appears to be the result of some personal enmity,” he added.
