LAHORE: A teenage girl, who was allegedly pushed down from the third storey of an outhouse in Hanjarwal, succumbed to her injuries at the Jinnah Hospital on Sunday.

Police said Zahida, 18, of Okara had suffered head injuries after she fell from the third storey of Khawas Khokhar’s outhouse on Multan Road on May 17.

The injured girl was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday afternoon.

Police had initially registered an ‘attempt to murder’ case against three suspects -- Aslam, Irshad and Hafiz Hamid, a rickshaw driver -- for throwing the girl from the third storey of the outhouse. After her death murder charges were added to the FIR.

Investigation in charge Taimor Abbas said the girl had allegedly gone to Khokhar’s outhouse to meet her relative Aslam.

Following her death, the victim’s family and relatives placed her body outside the Jinnah Hospital and lodged protest, alleging police were not arresting the prime suspect, Aslam. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded arrest of the suspect.

They alleged that the suspects first tried to strangle the girl and later pushed her down from the third storey of the building.

A heavy police contingent reached the hospital, held negotiations with the protesters and after convincing them to take legal course, shifted the body to the morgue for an autopsy. The investigation officer said two of the nominated suspects -- Irshad and Hamid -- had been arrested, while raids were on to arrest Aslam.

Boy shot dead

A boy was shot dead allegedly by his relatives following a scuffle at Kahna on Sunday.

Police said Iftikhar, 13, of Kasur, had come to attend a marriage ceremony of a relative at Ladhy Bhular village on Saturday night.

They said the boy had a quarrel with his relatives -- Jamil, Arshad, Naveed, Bilal and Farooq -- over some issue, ensuing a scuffle. Following the scuffle, the suspects shot at and injured Iftikhar severely.

The injured boy was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his bullet wounds on Sunday morning.

The police shifted the body to morgue for an autopsy and registered a murder case against the five suspects on the complaint of the victim’s father.

Investigating Officer Amanat Ali said the police had arrested all the five suspects and recovered weapons from their possession.

He said the victim had suffered two bullet wounds in the chest which led to his death at the hospital. He said initial investigation revealed that all the suspects were carrying weapons. “We are investigating that bullet from which weapon hit the boy, resulting in his death”, he added.

He said the seized weapons and empties found at the crime scene had been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination to ascertain which weapon was used in the crime.
