Three women including a mother of four children were attacked by their relatives in the past 24 hours in three different districts of Sindh. One of these women was killed in the name of 'honour', police said.

Matiari 'honour' killing

A teenage girl was shot dead by her fiance's brother in a suspected case of 'honour killing' in Kari Dandh village within the limits of Noor Keti, Matiari district.

Basheer Ahmed Rind opened fire on Mehnaz, killing her on the spot as he suspected that she had an illicit relationship with a man other than his brother, police said.

An FIR has been registered against five suspects, including the main accused, on the complaint of Mehar Rind, the father of the murdered girl.

The police officer present at Noor Keti Police Station said the accused had killed the girl in the name of 'honour'.

He said police, during raids conducted early on Saturday, arrested the prime accused with the weapon used in the murder.

Mirpurkhas 'black magic' murder

After killing his wife, the accused attempted to commit suicide by strangulating himself with a rope but was saved by villagers and later admitted to a local hospital.

No First Investigation Report was filed in the matter.

Police officials told Dawn that an investigation was underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder. The accused claimed that he killed his wife under the influence of "black magic".

Girl shot for 'honour'

A teenaged girl was shot at and injured in Daharki town of Ghotki district by her cousin.

The injured girl, Sadaf, was rushed to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan in a critical condition.

According to police, Sadaf had eloped to contract a marriage of her free will with a young boy of the same town but she was caught by her parents and area residents and handed over to the police.

"Police yielded to the pressure of a close relative of the provincial education minister Jam Mahatab Dahar and handed her over to her maternal uncle, where she was attacked and injured," a local journalist told Dawn.

The accused surrendered himself to police and confessed to the crime. No FIR was registered in the case till the filing of this report.
