KOHAT: The security forces on Saturday conducted a joint operation in the localities surrounding the PAF base, Kohat, and seized a big quantity of arms. They also arrested 96 suspects, including 21 Afghans.

The security forces and police also carried out house-to-house search in the locality. The operation was conducted in the city, cantonment, Officers Training School road, Dheri Banda, Miangan Colony and private residential areas around the Kohat airbase.

The security forces were supported by armoured personnel carriers, bomb disposal squad, sniffing dogs, lady police and elite police force. During the search, the agencies recovered five Kalashnikovs, three 12-bore repeaters, six shotguns, four rifles, 17 pistols and thousands of cartridges from the suspicious people.

They arrested people were handed over to the respective police stations for investigations where cases had been registered against them. The Afghan nationals, staying illegally, were sent to prison.

The security forces also rounded up some owners of rented houses and hotels for allowing stay of the non-locals without registering their personal data.

Meanwhile, the Hangu police claimed to have captured a RAW agent possessing Indian currency and belonging to banned TTP. Sources said that the operation was carried out by the personnel of Frontier Constabulary on a tip-off that an agent of RAW was hiding in Tora Warai area.
