Govt will soon initiate work on Karachi-Lahore motorway: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that the government will soon initiate work on the Karachi-Lahore motorway project, said a report published on Radio Pakistan.

Nawaz was addressing the annual awards ceremony of National Highways and Motorways Police in the federal capital.

The premier said the experience of constructing a motorway was successful, adding that more motorways projects will be started in the country.

Praising the services of Motorways and Highways police, Nawaz said many programmes were being implemented from the grass-root level in order to make highways safe.

The report further said that the premier directed the concerned authorities for enhancing efficiency of the Motorways Police and the recruitment of staff in a transparent manner.

The PM expressed hope that the Motorways Police would provide assistance to at least five thousand travellers on a daily basis, and vowed to implement a policy of zero tolerance with regards to corruption and misbehaviour with the travellers.

Nawaz expressed his determination to make the Motorways Police the best police force in the world.

While concluding the ceremony, the premier distributed awards to Motorways Police personnel who showed exemplary performance in discharging their professional duties.

Empty words to praise the motorway police but very little being done to facilitate them staying clean. Even after 12 years of services there are no promotions in it.

while i was travelling from Lahore to Karachi. A police picket stopped me in the middle of the road just before pannu aqil. all documents were checked and when found valid he asked me for bribe. said.. since i am travelling with Family and two small children .. i look like a respectable person.. the choice rests on me.. travelling across sindh is terrible. roads broken. police pickets every where asking shamelessly for bribes. un educated and unpolite, harassing attitude. what should be done for this?

For gods sake, security & safety of the people should b the priority....not motor ways & metros etc; divert the funds to improve security apparatus, NACTA etc; we do not seem to have learnt from continuous loss of human lives due to terrorism ,sectarian clashes, extortions & other life threatening incidents....

Pakistan needs world class healthcare for its citizens so that people do not die needlessly. Pakistan needs new energy sources to meet its growing requirements. Pakistan needs Motorways and Motorway Police after all the above has been achieved.

Its perplexing that PM's priorities are roads which takes away billions leaving nothing for schools, Colleges, hospitals etc. Islamabad metro will swallow a whopping 50 billion, where as 2 billion each could have provided much needed basic facilities to 25 districts of Punjab. Perhaps doing business while in chair is more profitable'
