Powell speaks to Indian FM

NEW DELHI, July 22: The United States has told India it is looking at the possibility of seeking a new UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution on Iraq.

Political developments in Iraq were discussed during a call on Monday between US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha, it said in a statement.

Earlier this month India’s cabinet rejected a US request for some 17,000 troops to join an Iraq stabilization force, but had suggested troops could be deployed if the UN was to explicitly endorse the force.—AFP
