ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Safe City Authority has initiated the second phase of the passenger vehicle verification system, a technology-driven public safety initiative to enhance the safety, security, and confidence of citizens using the services across the capital.

Director General Safe City Islamabad Haroon Joya said building upon the success of the initial phase Safe City Islamabad has initiated the second phase of the project.

The expansion aims to extend the verification of framework to public transport systems, including CDA electric buses, Metro Bus services, educational institution transport fleets, and other organised passenger transport services operating in the capital territory.

The objective is to create a unified transport safety platform where citizens can verify transport credentials and access emergency support regardless of the mode of travel.

Earlier, the Safe City Islamabad developed a Taxi Verification System (TVS). The system has been designed to create a verified, traceable, and police-assisted transportation ecosystem where both passengers and drivers can authenticate each other’s identity and the vehicle before and during a journey.

Under the first phase of implementation, more than 13,000 vehicles operating through registered ride-hailing platforms have been onboard and verified. The system has already been integrated with major mobility service providers, including Yango, InDrive, and other registered transport operators, while registration of local taxi services continues.

Each registered vehicle is linked with a unique QR code that can be scanned through the TVS mobile application.

Upon scanning the QR code, users can instantly access verified information including the vehicle’s registration details, make, model, color, and photograph, along with the driver’s authenticated profile. This verification mechanism enables passengers to confirm that they are boarding the correct vehicle with the correct driver, while drivers can also validate passenger details where applicable.

The system promotes transparency and accountability, significantly reducing the risks associated with impersonation, fraudulent rides, and unverified transport services.

A key feature of TVS is its direct integration with Safe City Islamabad and Islamabad Police emergency response mechanisms. In the event of harassment, misconduct, suspicious activity, personal safety concerns, or any emergency situation, passengers and drivers can immediately seek assistance through the application.

The system provides direct connectivity with police responders, enabling rapid intervention and facilitating timely law enforcement action through access to verified vehicle and driver records.

The initiative is particularly beneficial for women, students, families, senior citizens, and daily commuters who depend on public and private transportation for routine travel. By introducing digital verification and real-time police support, TVS strengthens public trust and contributes towards safer urban mobility within Islamabad.

The objective is to create a unified transport safety platform where citizens can verify transport credentials and access emergency support regardless of the mode of travel.

The Taxi Verification System reflects Safe City Islamabad’s broader vision of leveraging technology, digital policing, and smart city solutions to improve public safety, strengthen citizen confidence, and ensure secure mobility across the Federal Capital.
