ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad District and Sessions Judge East and his family spent the entire night without electricity in hot weather after thieves allegedly stole the power cable connected to his house.
The police registered a case under Section 379 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified thieves in response to a complaint lodged by Zahid Mehmood.
The police said that Mehmood worked as a cook at the judge’s house in G-10. During the early hours of June 10, at around 2am, the power supply to the house was suddenly disconnected.
The residents waited for the restoration of electricity, but the supply was not restored. Later in the morning, they discovered that the external power cable had been stolen.
Sources told Dawn that the judge, his son, and a senior official were residing in the house, while the judge’s two children were abroad. A security guard and the cook were also living there.
Only the judge’s house lost power at around 2am, while electricity supply to other houses in the street and the area remained uninterrupted. However, no one noticed the theft of the cable until morning.
Meanwhile, Iesco was informed about the power outage. In response, a team reached the house and installed a replacement cable, restoring electricity to the house after 12 hours.
