LAHORE While showing preference to play league hockey in the Netherlands, Pakistan hockey team goalkeeper Salman Akbar has resigned from his department National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).

Therefore he would not be a part of the department team in the upcoming National Hockey Championship starting in Karachi from April 3.

Head of the NBP sports department, former Test left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim confirmed to Dawn on Wednesday that they had received Salman's resignation.

He said that its was a priority for NBP to engage best players to compete in the national championship but Salman was more in favour of a future with the Dutch league, which is his choice after all.

However, according to a report Rehan Butt and Waseem Ahmad have chosen to represent their department Wapda in the national event, instead of playing in the Netherlands.
