LAHORE, March 19 Defending champions Wapda, Pakistan Air Force, Army, NWFP, Police and Punjab have also qualified for the last-eight stage of the 44th National Volleyball Championship at Wapda Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) had already made the last eight.

In the big upset of the day, PAF toppled a strong Army after a five setters crucial match. However, both booked the place in the quarter-final. PAF drafted the win with the score being 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-12.

PAF and Army both had a good number of international players, who demonstrated higher level of the game. But PAF spikers shows their best in the match.

PAF after making a good start of winning the first set with a narrow margin, lost the rhythm as Army roared back winning next two sets to gain 2-1 lead. But PAF staged a fine recovery winning the next two sets to complete a stunning win. However, both had reserved place in the last eight.

Earlier, in the first match of day, Wapda derailed Railways in straight way with the score being 25-12, 25-18 and 25-9.

Police proved too good against POF, winning it 3-1. Police completed the win with the score of 25-22, 18-25, 25-16 and 25-15. However, POF had already entered the last eight.

In the last match of the league round NWFP outclassed Punjab 3-2.
