LAHORE, April 22: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday re-issued notice to MNA Dr Tahirul Qadri for April 28.

Earlier, Justice Pervez Ahmad directed petitioner Abdul Aleem Khan’s counsel to deposit expenses to serve notice on Dr Qadri.

Abdul Aleem Khan, a candidate from NA-127 (Lahore) had submitted that fake votes were cast on polling day. In union council No 139 only, 335 bogus votes were cast.

Mr Khan said that he approached the authorities concerned for re-counting but his application was rejected.

He requested the tribunal to take notice and order disqualification of Dr Qadri.

Another election tribunal adjourned for May 15 the hearing of a petition, seeking disqualification of Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed.

Justice Syed Jamshed Ali of the Lahore High Court also summoned both the parties for arguments on next hearing.

Earlier, Justice Jamshed recorded the statement of witnesses.

Maulana Ghayasuddin submitted that Dr Javed’s father was Shakargarh Tehsil Nazim and used official machinery to support his son. The Maulana alleged that his voters were restrained from casting votes.

The petitioner informed the court that Dr Javed, on the day of polling, snatched ballot papers and boxes from the presiding officers (POs) and stamped votes in his favour.

The Maulana said he approached the election commission but failed to seek justice and the EC declared Dr Javed successful.—APP
