MINGORA: Govt-Sufi meeting today

MINGORA, March 6 Members of the NWFP government's taskforce on Friday arrived in Mingora to hold a meeting with Tehrik Nifaz-i-Sharia-i-Muhammadi chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad on Saturday.

Government spokesman Main Mohammad Iftikhar and provincial ANP president Afrasiab Khattak are likely to make a formal announcement about the release of 10 militants and abolishment of checkposts in the restive Swat valley in a joint press conference, to move forward the peace initiative agreed between the two sides.

After their arrival in Mingora, sources said, the two leaders held an in-camera meeting at the circuit house in Gul Kadda with military officers, Malakand Commissioner Mohammad Javed, DCO Khushal Khan and DIGP Shaukat Hayat to discuss progress in the peace process, Nizam-i-Adl Regulation, release of the 10 militants and abolishment of checkposts. The meetings, they said, continued till late night. —Correspondent
