KARACHI The sixth National Women's Karate Championship will get underway at Women's Sports Complex in Karachi on Saturday.

Defending champions Wapda will face a strong challenge from Pakistan Army in their bid to retain their title.

Besides Wapda and Army, around 100 karatekas and officials representing nine units of Pakistan Karate Federation including Railways, Police, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Federal Territory Islamabad and hosts Sindh will be taking part in the two-day championship.

The event will be contested in five weight divisions 45, 50, 55, 61-plus apart from individual Kata, Team Kata and Kumite.

“We are making efforts to hold the championship in a befitting manner for the third time after staging it in Hyderabad last year,” Chairman Sindh Karate Association Wasim Hashmi told APP on Friday. —APP
