ATTOCK, April 10 Two rival political groups belonging to former state minister Malik Amin Aslam and PML-N's MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Friday came close to a clash over inauguration of the environmental park and drainage projects.

Federal Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi was scheduled to inaugurate drainage project and visit Environmental Park Attock along with former state minister for environment Malik Amin Aslam on Friday evening.

But it irked the group of PML-N MNA Aftab Sheikh and they reached the Park before the arrival of the federal minister. They gathered there on the pretext of holding rally to celebrate restoration of judiciary.

Unmindful of the presence officials of police, law enforcing agencies and the media they resorted to intense firing in the air panicking local residents. However, to the annoyance of many, the police officials remained silent spectators over this lawlessness.

While speaking at the rally, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed said the environmental park project was launched by the past PML-N government and it was named as Nawaz Shairf Park. Later on Malik Amin Aslam then the mister of state, and MNA from Attock, changed its name to take the credit for this project.

Mr Aftab said that he and his activists did not believe in confrontation but the said act was not acceptable.

Therefore now we are going to inaugurate the environment park project and named as Nawaz Sharif park.

He advised Mr Amin to avoid interfering in the matters of his constituency as the park is situated in his constituency. He said that chief minister Mian Shahbaz Shabir would inaugurate the park accordingly.

Later, the PML-N MNA announced that now he along with his supporters was going to inaugurate the drainage project at Mirza village.

Despite being present in Attock, the federal minister for environment stayed at the residence of Malik Amin Aslam and delayed his visit to environmental park.

He however decided to inaugurate the drainage project at Mirza village first as per schedule panicking the local administration and heavy police force rushed to the venue to avoid any clash between the two groups. However the ceremonies were held peacefully as venues were different.

Talking to local newsmen the federal environment minister said that he had invited MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed to visit the environmental Park along with him.

He also visited the park, where director general forest Institute briefed the federal minister about the construction activities and other affairs of the park.
