LARKANA, Nov 30 Additional sessions judge Fida Hussain Mughal sentenced on Tuesday a supervising police officer (SPO) to death and a junior officer and a constable to three-year imprisonment.

SPO Manzoor Chandio, SI Zaffar Abbas Wako and constable Sikandar Khoso were convicted of breaking into the house of one Chuttal Abro in Lali-ja-Bhan village near Gairelo and killing his cousin Mithal Abro. Two other people, Wadhal and Razik, were injured.

Police described the incident as an encounter.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Mr Chandio and Rs20,000 on the two other personnel.

According to the FIR lodged by Chuttal Abro, Mr Chandio, the then SHO of Gairelo and now SPO of Ghotki, Mr Wako, now serving in the Motorway Police, and Mr Khoso, stormed into his house and killed Mithal. Police did not investigate the case and disposed of the FIR without submitting a chalan in the court.

Mr Abro filed a complaint in the court of district and sessions judge against the police officials which also rejected the case.The matter went to the Larkana circuit bench of the Sindh High Court which set aside the orders of the additional judge and returned the case to the same court for hearing. By that time the judge had been changed.The case came up for hearing on Tuesday when accused police officers, who were on bail, appeared in the court.

The judge declared them guilty and announced the sentence. The convicts were taken to the Larkana central prison.
