RAWALPINDI, Aug 7 A group of senior lawyers including a deputy attorney general and some women were beaten up and deprived of cash and valuables by some persons near Murree on Thursday, police said.

Mohammad Sarfraz Anwar Khan complained to the police that he along with Syed Iqbal Shah Gillani, the deputy attorney general, and five women lawyers were going to Murree in a coach after visiting the Nelum River.

When they reached Daval crossing, a recklessly-driven wagon slightly hit their vehicle while overtaking. The wagon driver stopped his vehicle and started quarrelling with the coach driver.

Later, the accused called some other people to the spot who attacked the lawyers and beat them up besides depriving them of cash and wrist watches. The value of the snatched cash and valuables was estimated at Rs300,000.—Staff Reporter
