KARACHI: Woman kills herself

Published April 13, 2003

KARACHI, April 12: A young housewife who set herself on fire in her house at Jacob Lines late Friday night died in a hospital on Saturday.

The incident appeared to be suicide. The police said Khairunnisa, aged 24, and Siddique Ahmed got married more than a year back. They had frequent arguments over domestic matters. Siddique told the police that late Friday night he had a quarrel with his wife over a domestic matter and he slapped his wife in the face. She locked herself up in the bathroom, poured kerosene on her body and set herself on fire. Her cries drew the attention of Siddique, who broke open the door of the bathroom, put out the fire and rushed his wife to Civil Hospital, where she died on Saturday morning.
