KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday remanded a woman in police custody for six days in a case pertaining to the alleged murder of her husband staged as a suicide.

The deceased’s wife and her former husband were booked on charges of murder on the complaint of the father of the deceased, who had nominated both suspects in the FIR. He stated that his son, Hamza, was married to Dua Rustam, a lady police constable.

The complainant said that he received a phone call informing him about his son. When family members reached the house, they found Hamza’s body hanging from the ceiling. He alleged that Hamza’s hands were tied, a piece of cloth had been stuffed into his mouth, and injuries were visible on his body.

The victim’s father alleged that his daughter-in-law, along with her ex-husband, was involved in the murder of his son and had attempted to portray it as a suicide.

On Thursday, the investigating officer produced the woman before the judicial magistrate (West) and sought her physical remand for further interrogation.

The IO informed the court that the exact cause of the victim’s death had yet to be determined. He further submitted that the woman’s alleged accomplice was absconding and needed to be apprehended.

The IO requested the court to grant the suspect’s physical custody to facilitate the arrest of her accomplice and to complete the investigation.

After hearing the IO, the court remanded the suspect in police custody for six days and directed the IO to produce her at the next date along with a progress report.

A case was registered at the Mominabad police station under Section 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
