Anti-US demos held in Mardan

MARDAN, Oct 10: Defence Council for Afghanistan (DCA) and the Anjuman Markazi Tanzeem Tajiran Mardan (MTTM) held a protest procession and public meeting at Bank Road against the attacks by the United States forces on Afghanistan.

The protesters gathered at the Hoti bridge and started the procession, chanting slogans against the US and its allies and terming the attacks terrorism against poor Afghans.

Later, small groups from various villages carrying Jamiat Ulema Islam flags joined the procession.

The procession was peaceful and no untoward incident occurred, however, the main bazaar remained closed for two hours.

The speakers at the public meeting included, MTTM President Ihsan Bacha, Mardan District PML(N) President Abdul Subhan, Hafiz Hussain Ahmad of JUI and other political and religious parties’ leaders.

A big JUI gathering held at Madressah-i-Taleemul Quran at Lund Khwar, some 40km from here, on Tuesday condemned the US attacks on Afghanistan.

More than 1,200 workers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, who attended the gathering, said they were ready to join the Taliban forces in their Jihad against the US and allies.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim of Mardan, Haji Raza Khan, has imposed section 144 in the district.
