HYDERABAD, Nov 20 The anti-polio campaign, from next year, would be launched after every two months instead of the present three, said District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil.

Presiding over a meeting at his secretariat on Thursday, he called for making efforts in administering drops to each and every child in the next anti-polio round beginning from 24th to 26th of this month.

He admitted the hurdles health staff face when parents show their reluctance in getting administered polio drops to their children. He sought the help of NGOs, teachers and elected representatives to ensure its success.

He advised the health staff to make sure that every child was administered polio drops for the safety of other children. He said massive awareness campaign should be launched in schools, colleges and through electronic and print media for creating awareness among the civil society, especially parents.

He said special arrangements should be made at railway station, bus stops and in bazaars and at entry and exit points of the district for administering anti-polio drops.

Deputy focal person anti-polio campaign, Dr Ahmed Haider said that no case of polio was reported in Hyderabad during the current year and added that in the last campaign, 98 per cent children were administered anti-polio drops.

He suggested that no union council nazim should issue birth certificate and no child should be admitted in the school unless he had completed the anti-polio course. The parents should be asked to produce immunisation certificate, Dr Haider said.

Those who attended the meeting included, EDO health, Dr Bux Ali Pitafi, naib district nazim, Zafar Rajput, DCO, Ali Ahmed Lund and other concerned officials of the district government.
