MARDAN, March 15 A constable was injured and a CD shop was blown up, when two explosive devices went off in different areas here on Saturday night.

Officials said that unidentified outlaws had planted a bomb near tower of a cellular phone company in Takhtbhai Town, which exploded and injured a constable, Bakht Masood. The blast did not cause damage to the tower. The injured constable was taken to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, another blast occurred at Mir Afzal Khan Market in Mardan City, which destroyed a CD shop. Sources said that the shop owner, Sohrab Khan, had received a letter, threatening him of dire consequences, if he did not wind up the business a week ago. However, he ignored the threat, which resulted in the explosion at his shop.

OPEN KUTCHERY

Mardan Division Commissioner Khalid Khan Umerzai said that steps had been taken to foil attempts by land grabbers in the Hoti area to illegally transfer the common land (Shamilat) either in their names or in the names of their relatives.

Speaking at an open Kutchery at the Par Hoti area on Sunday, Mr Umerzai said that the record of the common land had been corrected and in future nobody would be able to transfer it to individuals.

He said that criminal cases would be instituted against officials of the revenue department who were found involved in any fraud to transfer the common land in the name of land grabbers or their relatives.Khalid Khan said that the provincial government had allocated millions rupees in funds to various development works, including construction of Bacha Khan Medical College, Abdul Wali Khan University, Ring Road and repair and construction of other road projects in Mardan City.
