DADU, March 22 The Jamshoro district government is facing a financial crisis because of monthly deductions from its funds by the Sindh finance department. As a result, work on several development schemes has been stopped and the district government has decided not to launch new schemes.

This was stated by District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar in a communication addressed to the Sindh chief minister. He urged the Sindh government to stop deductions in the funds and release Rs500 million special funds to help the district government to continue development works and smoothly run district government affairs.

He reminded the chief minister that huge quantity of oil and gas was explored in the district which had industrial areas in Kotri and Nooriabad.

He said that the district had been contributing billions of rupees in taxes to the federal and the provincial governments but the district government had no funds for development projects. He said that due to financial crisis, the district government was only able to pay salary to its employees.

District Officer, Finance, Mohammad Sadiq Buriro, said that the district government was supposed to receive Rs130 million every month in the heads of salary and non-salary components. He said that the finance department had made deduction of Rs6.5 million from January 2009 to March 2009, Rs1.5 million in January, Rs1.5 million in February and Rs3.5 million in March.
