LAHORE Though hockey Olympian Tariq Aziz has cleared the dope test after his reports were found to be negative, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) may still impose a six-month ban on him for using banned drugs and violating the zero tolerance policy of the federation.

Dr Meesaq Rizvi, who conducted the Test last month told Dawn on Saturday that though Tariq had used a banned drug named Craboxy Thc, the level of its quantity in the urine was below the prohibited level.

Tariq was part of the scheduled European tour of the national team, now delayed due to visa problems, but was dropped after the PHF received some reports about his fitness.

Meesaq conducted the dope test on Sept 12 and the reports were finally received on Friday which were all negative.

However, sources in the PHF said though the level of banned substance was below alarming level, his actions belied the player's undertaking to the federation to practice complete refrain from using any banned substance.

According to sources, the PHF president or Executive Board could impose a six-month ban on the Olympian. Tariq had also faced a six-month ban some three years ago for hitting an Australian player during the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
