NAWABSHAH, March 28: People on Friday set ablaze a C-section police post and a police vehicle in the jurisdiction of the A-section police station following the custodial death of a man.

Earlier, a resident of Manuabad, Sabir Qureshi, had filed a complaint at the C-section police post that his brother, Zahid Qureshi, had occupied a section of his house.

The police arrested Zahid, 42, and brought him to the police post where he was threatened with dire consequence and beaten up. Zahid died of a heart attack at the police post.

When the residents of the area and the relatives of Zahid received the news, they set the C-section police post and a police mobile (GS-5089) on fire.

Police personnel, who were present at the post, fled after seeing the protesters, who also beat up a police constable.

Ms Razia, the wife of the deceased, lodged an FIR at the A-section police station against head constable Raja Waseem, head constable Mohammad Yousuf, head constable Urs Lund, Shakeel and Sabir Shah, accusing them of killing her husband.

When contacted, ASI Ghulam Abbas of the A-section police said the FIR was registered but relevant sections of the law were not entered. He said an inquiry was being conducted by the DPO and the TPO.

The police personnel of the post have been withdrawn.
