ISLAMABAD, Sept 25 The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) may forge an alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-N to form a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the party's secretry-general Jehangir Badr.

“We can make an alliance with any political party in the region,” he said at a press conference here on Friday after a meeting with leaders of his party in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Political analysts here believe that there is a possibility of the PPP and the PML-N cooperating here despite their differences on various issues.

PML-N spokesman Siddiqul Farooq did not rule out the possibility of the two parties cooperating in Gilgit-Baltistan. “I neither confirm nor deny the possibility of an alliance between the PPP and the PML-N.”

He said that his party would soon finalise its policy about the polls.

The PPP secretary-general endorsed the demand made by his party's president for Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah that instead of the federal information minister a local man should be appointed governor of the region.

The PPP would start receive applications from intending candidates from Saturday till Oct 2.

“PPP co-chairman ... Asif Ali Zardari will form a board which will select party's candidates,” he said.

The legislative assembly of the region has 24 seats.
