BAGHDAD, March 22: Iraqi state television showed President Saddam Hussein chairing meetings with top officials on Saturday, saying he praised the performance of Iraqi soldiers facing US and British invasion.

“The president expressed his satisfaction at the performance of the Iraqi army and members of the Baath Party and Iraqi tribes,” the television said.

It showed pictures of Saddam in two separate meetings — one with his powerful younger son Qusay, Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz and Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan and another meeting with Qusay and Defence Minister General Sultan Hashim Ahmed.—Reuters
