Water supply to Sukkur disrupted

Published June 30, 2009

SUKKUR, June 29 Water supply to the city has been disrupted since late Sunday night after 18-inch main pipeline burst near Madressa Manzil Gah.

Its repair work is continuing at snail's pace and restoration of water supply would further take 24 hours.

Though the taluka municipal administration was immediate-ly informed about the bursting of pipeline and keeping water crisis in mind the TMA should have started repair work immediately, but it was started after lapse of more than 12 hours.

This correspondent visited the site, where some of the TMA employees were seen taking a nap under the shadow of a wall.

When asked about the repair work, one of them replied that their officer had gone to bring some equipment and the work will start on their return.

Despite several attempts this correspondent failed to establish contact with the City Taluka Nazim Mohammad Naeem Siddiqui and in charge water works Jawed Akhtar.

Supervisor of water works Ashiq Ali Shaikh however said that repair work was under way and it would take a couple of hours to restore water supply which could not be done till filing of this report.
