SANGHAR, March 19: The district council of Sanghar on Wednesday announced to observe a holiday on Thursday to commemorate the death anniversary of Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi alias Sooreh Badshah Pir of Pagara.

The father of Pir Pagara and the leader of the Hur Jamaat, as his disciples are called today, was hanged on March 20, 1943 at the age of 33 during the British Raj. He was accused of waging war against the British Empire.

A seminar will also be held at the Pir Sibghatullah Shah Degree College here to commemorate one of the most prominent leaders of the sub-continent.

Prominent among those, who are expected to speak on the occasion, include Dr Hamida Khuhro, Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, Prof Laiq Zardari, Prof Qalandar Shah Lakhiari, Prof Liaquat Aziz, Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan, Mrs Gulzar Unnar, Dr Umer Chand, Ishtiaq Ansari and Faqir Mir Mohammad Nizamani.

UTP: The under-trial prisoners of the Tando Adam sub-jail ended their hunger strike against jail authorities on Wednesday.

Over one hundred prisoners started hunger strike on Monday, accusing jail authorities of demanding Rs3,000 to Rs5,000 from prisoners on their first day and torturing them if they did not pay the bribe. The jail authorities were also demanding Rs1,000 to Rs2,000 on monthly basis and those who could not provide the money were beaten up and sent to solitary confinement, they further alleged.

Rasool Bux Malokhani, Bukhshan Magsi, Wali Mohammad Khaskheli and other under-trial prisoners said they were served meal once a day and that too was not of a good quality or sufficient for one person.

They also complained they were not taken to courts for hearing of their cases.
