ISLAMABAD The Oil and Gas Development Company has found new oil and gas deposits at Rajian oilfield — about 50 kilometres south of federal capital, indicating that the area had much more recoverable reserves than earlier estimated.

The discovery has resulted “into 100 per cent increase in oil production from this old field discovered in 1993”, the company announced.

The new deposits at Rajian well-5 were found at a place 1.7 kilometres to the northeast of Rajian well-1. The company said the earlier estimates of recoverable reserves made in 2006 were of 8.104 million barrels of oil. With the addition of production from Rajian-5, the field production has jumped to 2,400 barrels per day from 1,200 barrels.
