KARACHI, Oct 2 Mr Zaffar Abbas is taking over as Editor of Dawn from Monday. He brings with him a wealth of experience.

The present editor, Mr Abbas Nasir, is relinquishing his post after more than four years' association with Dawn to pursue his journalistic career in London.

Mr Zaffar Abbas has had a long association with The Dawn Media Group. He began his career in journalism at The Star, a Karachi-based eveninger, in 1981. In 1988 he moved to the monthly Herald as Senior Reporter.

In 1992 he was named Special Correspondent at the Herald, Islamabad. Six years later, he took over as Bureau Chief, Islamabad.

Between 1990 and 2006, in addition to The Dawn Media Group, he held multiple assignments — with the BBC as a Correspondent in Karachi first, and later in Islamabad. He also worked for the Khaleej Times between 1984 and 1992 as a Correspondent.

In Oct 2006, he was appointed Resident Editor for Dawn in Islamabad. He has been Editor Designate at Dawn in Karachi since June 2010.
