MULTAN, Nov 28: The district government is going to introduce a ‘green channel’ system, enabling farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers in Friday and Sunday bazaars.

This was announced by district Nazim Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi while inspecting Ramazan bazaars in various city localities.

He said the farmers would make available fruit and vegetables directly from their fields to Friday and Sunday bazaars. This would avoid the role of middlemen which would eventually benefit consumers, he said.

The district government had planned to distribute 187,832 wheat flour bags of 20 kg each under its Ramazan package. Each flour bag would be sold at subsidized price of Rs149 against its market price of Rs180, he said.

The flour bags, he said, would be distributed in two phases. In the first phase from Nov 29 to Dec 1, at least 666 wheat flour bags would be distributed in each union council, while the second phase would be started from Dec 6 to Dec 8, he added.

SHADAN LOND: The Lahore High Court, Multan bench, has directed the Dera Ghazi Khan range DIG to ensure impartial investigation of the ‘Shadan Lond’ incident that claimed lives of four people for protesting US-led air strikes on Afghanistan.

Junaid Iqbal was among the deceased of police firing on Nov 9 last in Shadan Lond village of the Dera Ghazi Khan district.

It may be mentioned that Nov 9 was observed as a ‘wheeljam’ strike day by the Pak-Afghan Defence Council to condemn American atrocities in Afghanistan.

Junaid’s brother, Javed Iqbal moved the court alleging the police had opened fire on protesters without any provocation, killing four persons including his brother.

He also blamed that the area police had also turned down his repeated requests to file a murder case against the policemen.

Disposing of the petition, the court directed the Dera range DIG to listen carefully the point of view of both the parties.
