GILGIT, Feb 26: Northern Areas Tanzeem-i-Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal-Jamaat has decided to end its indefinite strike, following the assurances that culprits involved in attacking their mosque will be arrested.

Reliable sources said that the deadlock ended at a high-level meeting held between the jamaat leaders and the Northern Areas administration on Wednesday.

The meeting decided that all the miscreants involved in the Monday’s arson would be brought to book without any discrimination.

Earlier, army personnel were called in to control the tense situation on Wednesday morning as the strike had paralyzed the city.

Meanwhile, Shia leaders here have also called off their forthcoming procession on Friday to defuse the prevailing tension.

It was due to the killing of seven Gilgit people in Karachi on Feb 22, that activities in the city had come to a standstill for the last four days. Situation turned violent on Monday when the slain persons were flown to Gilgit.
