KHAIRPUR: PPP workers stage demo

Published February 27, 2003

KHAIRPUR, Feb 26: Hundreds of supporters of the People’s Party Parliamentarians staged a protest demonstration on the National Highway near Kumb here on Wednesday evening.

The protesters took out a procession from Kot Diji to Kumb and staged sit-in on the National Highway for three hours. District Nazim Nafisa Shah also joined the protesters.

Led by MPA Nawab Khan Wassan, the protesters alleged that local Pakistan Muslim League-F leader Haji Arbab Phul, with the help of the police, kidnapped PPP-backed Awam Dost Panel councillors and threatened with dire consequences if they did not change their loyalties after a vote of no confidence was moved against Fatehpur union council Nazim Farooq Khaskheli on Tuesday.

They said the DPO and other police officials were interfering in the district government affairs.
