SIALKOT, Oct 9: As many as 12 people were killed and 25 others sustained injuries in a road accident on the Gujranwala Road near Othian, some 24km from here, on Tuesday.

Reports reaching here said a speeding Daska-bound bus rammed into a roadside tree while trying to overtake a car (LOZ-102). The car ran into the bus.

The next moment a mini-bus (LHK-3355) coming fron the opposite direction crashed into the two vehicles. Eleven people died on the spot while another expired at the Daska Civil Hospital. A motorcyclist, Mujahid Ashraf, was also among the victims.

Five of the dead were identified as Ashfaq Ahmad, Tauqir, Shams Javed, Ashiq Husain and Shafiq Ahmad.

Of the 25 injured, five were identified as Mohammad Ashraf, Amjad, Bholla, Mohammad Iqbal and Nasir (Faisalabad).

The Sialkot SSP and Daska DSP shifted the dead and the injured to the Daska Civil Hospital through Edhi ambulances. The condition of all the injured was stated to be critical. Residents of Daska reportedly swarmed the hospital to donate blood. Bambanwala police have registered a case against the absconding bus and wagon drivers with no arrest so far.

Punjab Governor Mohammad Safdar has meanwhile sought a detailed report on the accident in 24 hours.
