Born: Feb 7, 1963. Captain. ODI debut: v New Zealand at Baroda, 1996. 6 matches, 114 runs, ave 38.00. 5 wkts, ave 41.00. Hugely-experienced skipper who played first-class cricket for Somerset, Glamorgan and Canterbury. Right-arm medium-fast bowler and a useful batsman. Played in 1996 World Cup.
LUCAS VAN TROOST
Born: Dec 28, 1969. ODI debut: v Sri Lanka at Colombo, 2002-03. 2 matches, 16 runs, ave 8.00. No wkts. Vice-captain and good hitter of the ball while his left-arm medium pacers are ideally suited to one day game.
DAAN VAN BUNGE
Born: Oct 19, 1982. ODI debut: v Sri Lanka at Colombo, 2002-03. 2 matches, 4 runs, ave 2.00. Talented young all-rounder who has played for Holland in all of their age-group sides. Has spent last three months in South Africa so is well-used to conditions.
JACOB-JAN ESMEIJER
Born: May 28, 1972. ODI debut: v Sri Lanka at Colombo, 2002-03. 2 matches, 7 runs, ave 3.50. No wkts. Experience of foreign conditions having wintered in recent years in Australia and South Africa. Solid spinner and reliable middle order batsman.
JAN KLOPPENBURG
Born: June 19, 1974. ODI debut: v Pakistan at Colombo, 2002-03. 1 match, 7 runs, ave 7.00. 1 wkt, ave 23.00. Should open batting, is dependable medium-pacer and good all-round fielder. Toured England in 1995 with Holland ‘A’ side.
TIM DE LEEDE
Born: Jan 25, 1968. ODI debut: v New Zealand at Baroda, 1996. 7 matches, 145 runs, ave 20.71. No wkts. Former national captain, De Leede is an all-rounder who has played 185 times for Holland in all competitions. Played in 1996 World Cup. Picked up valuable county experience with Northamptonshire, Sussex and Surrey.
HENDRIK-JAN MOL
Born: March 19, 1977. ODI debut: v Pakistan at Colombo, 2002-03. 1 match, 0 runs. One of numerous players to get first taste of international action in ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka last year.
RUUD NIJMAN
Born: June 15, 1982. Late call-up to replace injured Victor Grandia and has yet to make his debut. Medium-pacer with experience of South Africa having spent this winter in Cape Town as part of Dutch Academy.
KLAAS-JAN VAN NOORTWIJK
Born: July 10, 1970. ODI debut: v New Zealand at Baroda, 1996. 5 matches, 168 runs, ave 42.00. Played in the 1996 World Cup and hasn’t played since. But the Dutch are hoping that he can find the sort of shots that carried him to a memorable 64 against England in that tournament.
ADEEL K. RAJA
Born: Aug 15, 1980. ODI debut: v Sri Lanka at Colombo, 2002-03. 2 matches, 7 runs, ave 3.50, 2 wkts, ave 40.50. Lahore-born all-rounder who gives attack variety with his off-spin and as an alternative opening batsman.
EDGAR SCHIFERLI
Born: May 17, 1976. ODI debut: v Sri Lanka at Colombo, 2002-03. 2 matches, 15 runs, ave 7.50. No wkts. Fast bowler who just missed selection for the 1996 World Cup. Recently spent three months in South Africa.
REINOUT SCHOLTE
Born: Aug 10, 1967. ODI debut: v New Zealand at Baroda, 1996. 2 matches, 23 runs, ave 11.50. Wicket-keeper. Vice-captain of the 1996 World Cup squad and regular member of the team since 1990.
JEROEN SMITS
Born: June 21, 1972. Has yet to play in ODIs. Struggled to make first team as he is reserve wicket-keeper to Reinout Scholte.
NICK STATHAM
Born: March 15, 1975. Has yet to play in ODIs. Working on his off-spinners to give game extra dimension but struggling to make impact on first team.
BASTIAAN ZUIDERENT
Born: March 3, 1977. ODI debut: v New Zealand at Baroda, 1996. 7 matches, 98 runs, ave 16.33. As a 19-year-old, made his debut at the 1996 World Cup and hit a memorable 54 against England. Useful knowledge of South African conditions having spent the winter of 1997-98 in the country and has been on Sussex’s books in the county championship since 1999.—AFP
