KARACHI, Jan 30: Over a dozen Swedish buses have started plying the city roads from Thursday.

These air-conditioned buses have been introduced with the cooperation of a firm, Swed-Pak, on route 2-B. The green buses have a seating capacity of 35.

The students, senior citizens and handicapped people will get a concession in fare while its stage-wise fare has been fixed at Rs 10, 15 and 20.

The route 2-B starts from Surjani Town and ends at Tower after passing through Zaibunnisa Street, Zainab Market and Abdullah Haroon Road.

Another 16 buses will start plying within a week from Sohrab Goth to Tower via Guru Mandar, Islamia College and M.A. Jinnah Road.

Sindh transport secretary Raja Mohammed Abbas said that the new buses would help provide a service of international standard to citizens. The secretary hoped that the operation of the buses would help solve the city’s transport problem, and said there would be a gradual increase in their number.—PPI
