CHITRAL, Jan 23: The former general secretary of PPP Chitral Syed Sardar Hussain Shah has alleged corruption of millions of rupees in public works department in Mastuj tehsil and decided to move the NAB to unmask the looters of public funds.

Talking to Dawn here on Tuesday, he said the officers of different public works departments, including C&W, irrigation, now defunct TMA and public health engineering in collusion with contractors, embezzled public money meant for development projects in different sectors.

Mr Shah said despite payment of Rs310 million to the contractors for widening and blacktopping of the Booni-Shandur and Booni-Buzund roads, work on the project could not yet start.

Similarly, he added a huge chunk of Rs314 million was allocated for construction of Khandan and Atahk irrigation channels in the tehsil by the irrigation department, but the project was yet to see the light of the day.

The PPP leader maintained that the government had allocated Rs70 million for building protection wall around Booni town to protect it from the dangers of glacial outburst but no tangible amount of work could be seen on the site.

Mr Shah accused the local MPA of doling out millions of rupees among his near and dear ones through the TMA Mastuj, adding to conceal the wrongdoing the record of public works had been removed from the office.

He said that he will pursue the corruption case in the NAB so that the culprits could be punished and made an example for others to curb the menace.
