KARACHI, Jan 1: In the year’s first killing of a police official on Tuesday, assailants shot dead an assistant sub-inspector of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) in what the police described as a ‘targeted attack’.

Police said that the killing took place near the Habib Bank traffic intersection within the remit of the Site-A police station where ASI Mohammad Faiz was gunned down by two men riding a motorcycle when he was coming to work from his home in Metroville, SITE.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“He was a very active policeman,” said AVCC chief SSP Niaz Ahmed Khosa. “He took part in recent encounters and raids. It seems that the ASI, father was three, was killed in a reprisal attack.”

Over 120 policemen were killed in the city last year.
