KARACHI: Pakistan Navy piled on the misery on bottom side Wohaib FC with a 4-0 hammering here on Monday while Pakistan Air Force (PAF) rose to second spot in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) after beating Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 2-0.
Meanwhile, PMC Athletico hauled themselves away from the drop zone after they overcame National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), pushing Habib Bank Limited (HBL) into the relegation places in the process.
PMC Athletico have 20 points with HBL on 18 while Wohaib FC, following their dismantling at the PNS Karsaz Stadium, are on eight points and look certain to be playing in the Pakistan Football Federation League (PFFL) next season.
Wohaib FC kept Navy under control in the first-half but fell away in the second as the seamen turned on the style.
Bilal Junior breached their defence five minutes into the second-half, before slotting the ball in to give them a deserved lead before his strike partner Mohsin Ali put Navy 2-0 up in the 62nd after another well-worked move.
Navy were 3-0 up eight minutes later as Adnan scored with a spectacular strike before Mohammad Ramzan found himself unmarked in the penalty box following a set piece to round off the scoring.
Navy moved to 29 points from 25 games but their fellow armed forces sides are faring much better this season with both PAF and Army in the top three.
PAF overtook Army in second as they reached 53 points after their victory over PIA in the battle of the airmen at the Korangi Baloch Stadium.
Striker Mohammad Sher was involved in both goals, setting up Mansoor Khan for the opener with a deft pass in the 38th minute before assisting fellow forward Mohammad Zeeshan to complete the scoring in the 84th.
Mohammad Usman struck in the 57th minute at the KPT Football Stadium to give PMC Athletico a much-needed win against an NBP side, which have lost their early season swagger.
Wednesday’s fixtures: HBL v ZTBL (People’s Football Stadium, Karachi); KESC v KPT (KPT Football Stadium, Karachi).
