MIRPURKHAS, Dec 13: The Sindh Board of Revenue on Thursday notified the establishment of a new taluka — Shuja Abad — within Mirpurkhas district.

It is learnt that the new taluka has been name after Shuja Mohammad Shah, father of Sindh Minister for Agriculture Syed Ali Nawaz Shah. It comprises Mirwah Gorchani, Makhan Sammu and Jhilori union councils as well as several dehs.

Mirwah Gorchani is the biggest union council of the new taluka but Ali Nawaz Shah village has been made its headquarters.

Residents of Mirwah Gorchani, who have been demanding taluka status for the notified area, wanted the town to be made the headquarters of the taluka arguing that it was situated along the main Mirpurkhas-Mithi road.

Syed Ali Nawaz Shah village is located far away from the main road and does not have easy access by road, they say.

With the addition of the new taluka, Mirpurkhas district will now have seven talukas — Mirpurkhas, Sindhri, Hussain Bux Marri, Digri, Jhuddo, Kot Ghulam Mohammad and Shuja Abad.
