KOHAT, Dec 5: A man strangled his wife to death in Noor Elahi colony on Wednesday.

Shah Noor reported to the police that he was sitting in his house when people told him that his sister (M) had been killed. He rushed to her house and found her dead. He told the police that she had very strained relations with her husband, Omer Farooq, who fled the scene after allegedly strangling her wife. The police registered the case and launched investigations.

THREAT: The sanitary staff of tehsil municipal committee, Lachi has threatened to resign if their services were not confirmed.

The sanitation staff, in a statement, said that it had become impossible for them to run the daily expenditures in meager Rs7,000 salary. They alleged that on their appointment in 2011 they had been promised promotions which had not been approved by the high ups despite several appeals.

They claimed that after 12 years of service their promotion and confirmation of services was their due right. They had again sent an application to the tehsil municipal officer, Mohammad Ameen and warned him that if they were not confirmed and promoted they would be forced to quit their jobs.

ARRESTED: The Kohat police arrested 616 outlaws and seized huge cache of weapons from their possession during an operation in November.

A statement said the personnel of all the police stations conducted special operations against anti-social persons. Thirty proclaimed offenders were also among those arrested.

The seizure included 43 Kalashnikovs, four Kalakovs, 27 rifles, 64 shotguns, 234 pistols, 174 chargers and 121 kilograms of hashish.
