LAHORE: A residence of Shahdra town has become the latest victim of the ‘toxic syrup’ tragedy, raising the death toll to seventeen, DawnNews reported.

Another four men were also taken to the hospital after suffering a reaction from the Tyno syrup. Hospital sources said that the men are drug addicts.

Meanwhile, after conducting initial lab tests, the samples of Tyno syrup collected from the factory, have been cleared.

Talking to DawnNews, the technical committee at the hospital said that it’s not unusual for people to buy medicines without a prescription.

The committee did not rule out the possibility of poison or other toxic compound.

The City District Government during a crack down against spurious medicines sealed at least eight factories in various area of the provincial capital.

CDGL sources stated here on Tuesday that special teams headed by drug inspectors of CDGL conducted raids on suspected factories and sealed Medi Pharma Kalakhatai Road Street no 1, Health Grow Sharqpur Road, Medi Pharma Kala Khatai Road Main Bazar, Rose Pharma Sharqpur Road, Qasim Herbal Lab Malik Park Shahdara, Midway Pharma Ravi Toll Plaza, Muslim Unani Lab Shahdara and A.S Homeo Lab Shahdara.

Earlier, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal had visited Tyno Syrup factory which allegedly caused death of 17 people in the city. CDGL team on the orders of DCO sealed the factory and collected samples for lab analysis.
