KARACHI: The Sindh High Court resumed on Tuesday the hearing over a petition filed by the provincial government's home department  requesting the SHC to review its decision of overturning a ban on motorcycles until Muharram 11, DawnNews reported.

While putting off the petition, moved by government on Monday, the SHC said that such a ban could not be imposed across the whole city as it would cause hardship to citizens.

The court further said that a ban on motorcycles could be allowed on public holidays or in selective areas of the city especially near Imambargahs.

Advocate General Sindh had taken the stance information was received about terrorist attacks in the city involving motorcycles, similar to the recent motorcycle blast in Karachi's Abbas town area.

The court sought all records relevant to the subject, for its next hearing on the case.

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik had earlier placed a ban on bike-riding in Karachi and Quetta on Muharram 1, citing intelligence reports of motorcycles being used in terrorist attacks.

However, SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam overturned the ban the same night on a petition filed by Sindh High Court Bar Association President Anwar Mansoor Khan against the day-long ban on use of motorcycles in Karachi.
