CHITRAL, Nov 5: The Vice-Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi has announced to establish regional campus of the university in Chitral.

Mr Sangi said work on the campus will be started as and when the land was acquired by the district administration. He also announced establishing six more study centres in different remote areas of the district.

Addressing students and tutors of AIOU here on Monday, he said the university had the credit of adding more than 300,000 students to the secondary and higher education programmes every year. He said the university had approached the segments of society who had no resources to go further in the field of education while it has now added technical and professional education to its programmes.

He said it was not only the quantity which counted in the university but the quality was equally upheld using the latest available technology and employing maximum resources.

“Now a student sitting in Chitral will be able to attend to a teacher in Islamabad or elsewhere through the video conference,” he said and claimed the students were second to none in the county.

Mr Sangi said the technical and professional education offered by the university had special attraction and potential for the young students of Chitral which will provide them with the opportunities of self-employment. He said the courses of agriculture, livestock keeping, hotel management and tourism, archaeology, handicrafts, food processing and horticulture had great scope in Chitral. He assured the students that lack of resources and facilities would not impede promotion of educational activities in the area. — Correspondent
