LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 5: Executive district officer (education) Haji Mir Azam Khan on Monday urged women teachers to increase enrolment of girl students in schools for better female literacy rate in the district.

Speaking during a meeting in government girl’s primary school railway junction here on Monday, the EDO said his department would request the relevant authorities to sanction more posts of female teachers for the district in case enrolment of the students in the girls’ schools was desirably increased. He said strict action would be taken on complaints about absenteeism of female schoolteachers. He said his office had been receiving a good number of complaints about absence of female teachers from schools.

“Absenteeism is an intolerable act,” he said urging teachers to ensure attendance in their respective schools.

The EDO said presence and attendance of female teachers would help win the people and persuade them to send their daughters to schools.

ADO Shagufta Amin, in charge of the centre Zeenat Bibi and NCHD Markaz coordinator Shoaib Kausar also spoke on the occasion, where headmistresses of government primary schools for girls and students were also in attendance.

TRACTOR DRIVER KILLED: A driver was killed and two injured in an accident near Kurram bridge on Indus Highway on Monday.

According to witnesses, the accident took place after a car and a tractor collided head-on.

They said driver of the tractor Hussain, a resident of Kala Manjiwala village, died on the spot.

They said the two people riding in the car were injured and taken to a local hospital.

OFFICE-BEARERS: The district chapter of All Primary Teachers Association elected new office-bearers here on Monday.

Elections were held at the District Headquarters Complex, Tajazai. Teachers participated in them in large numbers.

Haji Abdul Rahim of Tajazai and Mohammad Ibrahim of Tajori were elected president and general secretary of Apta.

Apta provincial vice president Shafiq Ahmad and Supreme Council’s chairman Fazlur Rehman supervised the election.—Correspondent
