THE Government Primary School, Daska, which was constructed in 1905, is now a shambles. Students used to drink water and use washroom at the same place which was affecting their health.

It was actually a temple which was converted into a school after the partition in 1947. The school had more than 700 students. The number of students decreased to 288 as five rooms and three washrooms were declared dangerous after the 2005 earthquake, while eight teachers also left the school owing to this awful situation. According to the principal of the school, the education department was told about the situation time and again but nobody ever paid attention to the problem.

Some months ago a portion of the classroom roof collapsed while students had a narrow escape as they were, fortunately, not in the room when the incident happened.

Now the children are not willing to sit in classrooms and are compelled to attend classes under the sky even in severe weather conditions, while the entrance to the school is also in a dangerous condition.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Gujranwala commissioner and Sialkot DCO are requested to take immediate notice of the matter to allow children to continue their studies in a safe environment.
